Wis. state trade mission going to Vietnam

MADISON, Wis. — The state of Wisconsin’s first-ever trade mission to Vietnam departs on Saturday.

The weeklong trade mission is being led by Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Secretary Ben Brancel.

Brancel and Jennifer Lu, a department economic development consultant, plan to visit Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh and Hanoi.

Brancel says the purpose of the trip is to identify opportunities and challenges for Wisconsin businesses in Vietnam. He says there is potential for the state’s dairy and livestock industries in Vietnam because of the country’s desire to expand in those areas.

Meetings are planned with the US Dairy Export Council, the Vietnam Feed Association, and the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development.

In 2010, 40 percent of Vietnam’s whey imports came from Wisconsin.
