Man escapes from ambulance near Pingree Grove
A man with psychiatric issues briefly escaped from the back of a private ambulance near Pingree Grove Thursday night, but Kane County Sheriff's officers found him a couple of miles down the road, police said.
The incident occurred at 7:45 p.m. around Plank Road and Route 20, Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said.
Details on the episode are sketchy, but the man somehow managed to overpower the ambulance crew and run away.
Police discovered him less than an hour later in a wooded area between one and two miles away from where he escaped.
"So he didn't make it very far," Gengler said. "We were able to get him."
There were no reports of the man hurting himself or anyone else.
Police don't know where the ambulance came from or where it was headed.
The man wasn't arrested and in the end was instead taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
