Wrong-way driver in crash on I-88
A car heading in the wrong direction on Interstate 88 slammed into another vehicle early Sunday morning, leaving both drivers injured, Illinois State Police said.
The crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday near Cermak Road in Oak Brook, police said. A red 1998 Pontiac, driving eastbound on the westbound side of the tollway collided head-on with a black 2001 BMW.
The drivers of both cars were taken to local hospitals with injuries, but police did not release their names and conditions Sunday pending notification of family members. Police characterized their injuries as “non-life-threatening.”
The driver of the Pontiac was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and other traffic offenses, police said. No other information was available Sunday.
