Attempt to run down Decatur officer nets 10 years

DECATUR — A judge in central Illinois has handed down a 10-year prison sentence for a 45-year-old woman who tried to run over a Decatur police officer while fleeing from a botched burglary.

Associate Judge Timothy Steadman sentenced Sandra Beasley on Wednesday. She’d pleaded guilty to attempted murder as part of a plea agreement.

The (Decatur) Herald & Review reports that Beasley was the getaway driver and one of four people involved in a scheme to steal a mini-bike from a backyard trailer.

After a witness called police, authorities say Beasley sped away in a pick-up truck, forcing the responding officers to jump out of the way.
