Chicago Wolves move into tie for first place
The Chicago Wolves made a pair of second-period goals stand up in a a 2-1 Amtrak Rivalry victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.
Michael Davies had a goal and an assist and Bill Sweatt also scored for the Wolves (21-12-1-3), who won their season-high fifth straight contest and moved into a tie for first place in the Midwest Division with Charlotte.
“I thought this was a very good hockey game,” said Wolves coach Craig MacTavish. “It had a ton of intensity, battles and drama and we were able to hold on.”
After a scoreless 20 minutes, the Wolves (21-12-1-3) got on the board 57 seconds into the second period when Davies skated in on a partial breakaway and snapped a shot that Admirals goaltender Jeremy Smith stopped — but Davies slammed home the rebound.
After the Admirals (20-13-0-1) knotted the score on a power-play goal at 6:19 of the second period, Davies fed Sweatt in the slot and he netted what proved to be the game-winner.
Wolves goalie Matt Climie (12-5-0) stopped 32 shots to earn his sixth win in his last seven starts.
The Wolves host the Lake Erie Monsters today at 7 p.m.
