Can Bears come in to the 21st Century?
While it’s true the Mugs Halas moved the Bears in the right direction by hiring Jim Finks, Mugs died suddenly, which allowed George Halas to resume control of the Bears. In the process he made Finks’ life miserable in terms of running the Bears.
The groundwork Finks and some of his cohorts put in place helped Mike Ditka lead the Bears to a Super Bowl win in 1986, but the McCaskeys, like Papa Bear, have taken the Bears backward.
The Bears remain a “corporate culture” still locked in the past. Perhaps the Bears will be as fortunate as the Cubs. Perhaps they can find a new owner who can refocus this team by hiring a handful of the “right people.” that bring the Bears into the 21st Century.
