Nominations sought for state volunteer award

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois officials are seeking nominees for volunteer service awards.

The Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service says the deadline for accepting nominations is Feb. 29.

The panel says the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards recognize the importance of volunteerism and community services in the state.

State officials say successful nominees will have focused in one the following areas: economic opportunity, education, environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, health or veterans’ affairs. Winners will be selected by different age categories and regions.

The Serve Illinois Commission is a 25-member board appointed by the governor.

Winners will be selected and notified by March 30 and will be invited to a luncheon at the Executive Mansion in Springfield in late April.
