Celebrating 100 years, Girl Scouts honor local volunteers at annual meeting

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) honored local volunteers and elected new members to the council's Board of Directors at the organization's recent annual meeting.

Alexandra Fleig of Hanover Park has been elected as a Board-Appointed Associate Director for GSNI. She is a junior at Bartlett High School where she is the School Football Manager. She enjoys playing basketball, reading and rollercoasters. She is a Girl Scout Senior in Troop 1386 and has earned the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards. Her Girl Scout positions include Member of the Property Committee for Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.

Miriam Fleig of Hanover Park received the Thanks Badge, which is awarded to volunteers actively giving service that impacts the council or the entire Girl Scout Movement. Fleig has served as the Cheyenne Service Unit Manager, Member of GSNI's Strategic Learning Strategy Team, Service Unit Delegate, National Council Delegate, 100th Anniversary Steering Committee, 100th Anniversary Local Events Co-Chair and Senior Troop Leader. She exhibits gracious professionalism in her role and is able to draw those characteristics out of other volunteers and girls. As a member of the Strategic Learning Strategy Team, Fleig also spent 5 months working to develop the business strategy that leads the operational work of the council for 2010-2013.

Cheyenne Service Unit (Bartlett, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Streamwood and Wayne) received The President's Award, which is given to a geographic area team or program delivery team that has significantly contributed to meeting one or more council goals in membership growth and retention, fund development or increased community visibility.

Cheyenne contributes to meeting many of GSNI's mission delivery goals. At the end of the year, this service unit met 112% of their girl membership goal and 105% of their adult membership goal! This Service Unit practiced inclusive behavior each day and met all requirements and expectations of their plan of work.
