College preview: MSU at Northwestern

Michigan State (15-2, 4-0) at Northwestern (11-4, 1-3)

When: 2 p.m. Saturday, Welsh-Ryan Arena

TV/radio: BTN/WGN 720-AM

Skinny: It just doesn’t get any easier for Northwestern. A 1-point loss at home to Illinois, a heartbreaking OT loss on the road at Michigan, and now it’s No. 6 Michigan State swooping into Evanston — NU’s fourth ranked opponent in their last six games. The good news for the Cats is they played the Spartans tough last year, dropping a 3-point decision at home and losing an OT thriller in East Lansing. The bad news? The Spartans have won 15 straight games since opening their season with a pair of losses. John Shurna, who poured in 21 points against Michigan, enters today’s matchup with 1,679 career points, just 10 shy of Michael Thompson for third place in school history.

Next: Northwestern at Wisconsin, 8 p.m. Wednesday
