Merrimac ferry closed for the season

MERRIMAC, Wis. — The Merrimac ferry has closed for the season.

The ferry crosses the Wisconsin River between Sauk and Columbia counties on Highway 113. The State Journal reports the state Department of Transportation says service will resume in the spring when the river is free of ice.

During the peak of usage in August, the free ferry carries up to 1,200 vehicles a day from Okee to Merrimac.
