St. Charles man indicted on 4th DUI
A Kane County grand jury has indicted a St. Charles man accused of driving under the influence for a fourth time, authorities said Monday.
Joseph Pomplin, 44, of the 0-99 block of South Gate Court, faces two counts of aggravated drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a Nov. 11 incident in St. Charles.
Police said Pomplin drove into a car parked on North Third Street then drove away without reporting it. Using a witness description of his black Ford Expedition and ownership records, police went to Pomplin's home and charged him with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
On Friday, a grand jury upgraded the charges against Pomplin to include two felony drunken-driving offenses, the most serious of which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison.
According to Kane County court records, this is Pomplin's fourth DUI. His background includes one in St. Charles in 1987 and one in Geneva in 2003.
He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday on the new charges.
