City approves casino liquor licenses

The Des Plaines City Council recently approved six liquor licenses for the new Rivers Casino that are expected to generate $72,000 for the city this year alone. The city will subsequently make $36,000 yearly in license renewal fees. The city council recently approved a new liquor license category for the casino and permits for six restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues allowed to sell alcohol inside the casino. The licenses were awarded to Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chop House, Cube, Canopy Buffet, Flipt, Mianbar, and a coffee shop. The council also authorized a special occasion casino liquor license for outside events that would cost $1,000 daily. Money generated from the licenses goes into the city’s general fund. All licenses must be renewed annually by the city’s liquor commissioner and Mayor Marty Moylan.
