Damaged cord causes St. Charles fire
A St. Charles home was left uninhabitable after a Monday morning fire started in an attached garage.
Firefighters responded to the 0-99 block of Division Street at 7:23 p.m. after the homeowner dialed 911 from outside the house, officials said.
The first units at the scene found heavy smoke inside the home and a working fire in the attached garage, which took about 20 minutes to bring under control, according to the St. Charles Fire Department.
By the time the fire was out, total damaged were estimated at $60,000 to the home and its contents, according to fire officials.
Investigators remained at the house until 10:15 a.m. and concluded the fire was started to a short circuit on a damaged electrical cord in the garage, officials said.
The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by the Geneva, Batavia and West Chicago fire departments.
No one was injured in the fire.
