Marshals nab Bartlett fugitive facing 10-year term

U.S. marshals on Wednesday captured a Bartlett woman facing a 10-year prison term for falsely reporting two deaths in an insurance scam, a prosecutor said.

Bridgette L. Buckner, 50, is expected to appear in court Thursday before DuPage County Judge John Kinsella.

Kinsella sentenced Buckner in absentia to consecutive 5-year prison terms last month after she twice failed to appear in court.

Buckner pleaded guilty in June to defrauding a former employer by falsely reporting the deaths of a young daughter and her husband in insurance claims.

She also faces identity theft charges in Cook County.

Buckner was being held in DuPage jail without bond. Her attorney said he plans to ask Kinsella to reconsider the sentence. He said he had no solid information on Buckner’s arrest.

“I’m awaiting the details as much as anyone else at this time,” Matthew Hachigian said.

Buckner’s mother and other relatives declined to comment Wednesday.

No other details were immediately available.
