Gurnee police sergeant awarded for public service

For his outstanding community service, Gurnee Police Sgt. Jason Kalinowski earned a major award from the world's largest professional association for police leaders, officials said Friday. Kalinowski, 38, will receive a 40 Under 40 Award at the International Association of Chiefs of Police annual conference in Dallas next month. Kalinowski has been a police officer for 16 years and all but the first two were spent in Gurnee. Kalinowski has volunteered for Turkey Trot, Shop with a Cop, Illinois Special Olympics Torch Run and Cop on a Rooftop. Police Chief Brian Smith said Kalinowski consistently demonstrates leadership and exemplifies the heart of a public servant.
