House fire in Greene County kills mother, daughter
KANE— Authorities in Greene County say a woman and her daughter were killed and another child hospitalized when flames consumed their home in the western Illinois community of Kane.
Sheriff Rob McMillen says the bodies of the 28-year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter were found inside their home after firefighters controlled the blaze reported about 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The victims’ identities weren’t immediately released.
A second child was taken to a St. Louis hospital with unspecified injuries. There’s no word on the child’s condition Thursday.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Kane has about 450 residents and is roughly 40 miles north of St. Louis.
