Village's development activity remained steady in 2011
LOMBARD, Illinois—In 2011, the Village of Lombard saw a slight increase in overall development activity.
According to William Heniff, Director of Community Development, while the actual number of building permits for 2011 were slightly below (1.9%) 2010 levels, the valuations (as measured by proxy through plan review fees) associated with development activity increased by 1.2%. The increase can be attributed to new bricks and mortar construction activity development such as the new Chick fil-A on Butterfield Road, Chase Bank at Yorktown Center and the new Aimco/Yorktown Apartments Parking Garage on Highland Avenue.
The Village also saw several substantial new office tenants locating in previously vacant space, such as American Utilities Management and Dental Network of America. Heniff said that 105 new or expanding businesses opened in 2011 in Lombard, up from 78 in 2010. These new establishments occupy about 638,011 square feet of commercial space.
“Many of these uses involved significant build outs and expansions and show continued investment in Lombard,” noted Heniff. “Lombard expects this trend to continue to remain steady in 2012 as several new developments are in the pipeline or have advanced to the plan approval process with the Village,” he added.
Peter Breen, District 4 Trustee and Chair of the Village's Economic and Community
Development Committee stated, “Increasing numbers of entrepreneurs and established businesses are discovering that Lombard is ‘open for business'. The Lilac Village is committed to getting business in and open with a minimum of time and expense,” Breen added.
