Sheriff’s office conducts alcohol check
Lake County authorities recently announced the results of a special check of stores in Beach Park and an unincorporated area to make sure clerks were not selling alcohol to minors.
The Lake County sheriff’s office, in accordance with a Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking grant, conducted the alcohol compliance checks at 13 retail liquor establishments on Dec. 14 and 28.
Officials said one illegal sale of alcohol to a minor was documented. A clerk at the Marathon gas station, 38947 Green Bay Road, Beach Park, was issued a county ordinance citation for selling alcohol to a person who is younger than 21. A sheriff’s detective witnessed the transaction, authorities said.
Kevin Porthouse, 26, of Zion, was issued a citation and given notice to appear in court, according to police reports.
