Great Lakes Credit Union pitches in to buy for kids
Submitted by Sue Malo, Great Lakes Credit Union
Staff from Great Lakes Credit Union recently used their personal time to Christmas shop for 75 young patrons of One Hope United. Throughout the year GLCU recycles aluminum cans and collects donations from staff for such things as “Jeans Days” and 50/50 raffles to fund the gifts.
Shoppers were given the child’s first name, age, gender and wish list to conduct their shopping. Gifts were collected at the Credit Union and then delivered to One Hope United in Lake Villa in time to get wrapped for their annual Christmas party for the kids.
This effort is one of several ways GLCU has given back to the community during the holiday season. Other ways have included collecting coats and warm clothing items for the less fortunate, conducting food drives for several local food pantries, and participating in “Toys for Tots” collections.
Especially in this continued harsh economic climate, GLCU staff feel privileged to be able to give back to struggling youth and their families.
