Antioch fisherman dies after heart attack

A 70-year-old Antioch man out fishing on the Chain O’ Lakes died Wednesday after an apparent heart attack caused him to fall from his boat, authorities said Thursday.

A group of fishermen on Channel Lake in Antioch called 911 after seeing an empty boat turning in circles and later finding Frank Tito unconscious in the water, Antioch Fire Chief John Nixon said.

The men called 911 at 5:12 p.m. and held Tito above the water until an Antioch rescue boat arrived, Nixon said.

Rescue crews said Tito was unconscious when they reached him.

The fishermen said they had seen Tito fishing alone on the lake earlier in the day, Lake County sheriff’s Police Sgt. Timothy Jonites said.

Jonites said there is no reason to believe foul play was involved.
