Texas gives Brown contract extension

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas football coach Mack Brown is getting a contract extension through 2020.

University regents voted Thursday to give Brown four more years on his current contract, which was set to expire in 2016.

Brown is paid $5.2 million per year. He won’t get any more money out of the deal but will keep getting annual raises of $100,000 that are in his current contract.

Texas officials have said they want Brown to stay at Texas as long as he wants. The 60-year-old coach is 141-39 in 14 seasons and won the 2005 national championship.

Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds says he wanted the extension to help end rumors that surfaced after last season that Brown might soon retire.
