Remember the true origin of Christmas
This is in response to a Dec. 8 letter, “No Christmas, only ‘Holiday.’” Seriously! Yes, Steve, there is Christmas. Our country was founded on religious freedom; therefore, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas are all recognized.
For many people Christmas has become just a holiday with decorations, parties and gifts. How sad that that is their complete focus. Christmas is truly the celebration of the birth of Christ!
Christmas is a time to reflect on the blessings given to man on that first birthday. When you hear a Christmas carol listen to the words: “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” etc. When you see decorations look for the star or a replica of the family from Bethlehem. When you give or receive a birthday gift recall how that tradition began many years ago with frankincense, gold and myrrh.
Christmas is not just a holiday, it is a real celebration! Perhaps when it is celebrated with that realization there will be peace on Earth, goodwill to men.
