Let the state default so we can start over
This is in response to the Aug. 9 Fence Post letter from Louis Kosiba, director of the Illinois Municipal Pension Fund. Pensions are an important part of retirement, but they should not depend on the generosity of your fellow taxpayers.
Anyone who wants a pension when they retire should earn it the old fashioned way - they should pay into it themselves. Having the state administrate retirement plans is like having the fox watch the hen house. It is wrong for people making $40,000 per year to support those receiving $70,000 in retirement benefits.
Governments have shown time and again that they cannot be trusted to handle money. The more they get, the more they spend. I say let the state default so we can start over again with appropriate guidelines.
