Carpentersville man accused of using gun to rob teen of shirt

A 23-year-old Carpentersville gang member faces charges of with using a stolen gun to rob a juvenile of a blue shirt.

Bail for James M. Glover, of the 1700 block of Kingston Circle, has been set at $300,000, meaning he must post $30,000 to be free pending trial.

Glover was arrested late Friday afternoon and charged with numerous felonies — including armed robbery with a firearm, armed violence, armed habitual criminal, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm by a gang member, according to police and court records.

The most serious charges carry a six- to 30-year prison term if convicted with no possibility of probation.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said two juveniles reported to an officer that two men robbed them in a pizza parlor parking lot near Hopi and Helm roads.

Kilbourne said the men asked the boys, who are 14 and 16, if they wanted to “disrespect a street gang.” The boys said they were neutral and then one of the men pointed a gun at them and stole a blue shirt from one.

The teens reported to police what happened and an officer saw Glover and another man behind the nearby Sunnyhill Elementary School, 2500 Helm Road. Both men ran, but police caught Glover, who during the chase, threw a loaded semiautomatic Sig Sauer handgun on the ground, Kilbourne said.

The gun was reported stolen in 2003 out of Algonquin, Kilbourne said. Police are still looking for the other man.

Glover is due in court on Nov. 9.

According to court records, Glover spent 56 days in jail after being arrested in August 2010 by Carpentersville police on felony robbery and aggravated battery charges that he beat a man and took his blue White Sox hat at the intersection of Hopi Lane and Chippewa Circle.
