No bail for suspect in cop’s murder

Bail has been denied for a 24-year-old man charged with killing an off-duty Chicago police officer.

Antwon Carter appeared in bond court Wednesday after being charged with murder and attempted armed robbery in the death of officer Michael Bailey.

Bailey was shot and killed July 18, 2010 as he was washing his car outside his South Side home. He’d just gotten off duty from the detail assigned to then-Mayor Richard Daley’s home.

Court records show Carter was on parole for aggravated battery to another police officer when Bailey was shot. Carter was in a state prison for violating parole when Chicago police began questioning him three weeks ago about Bailey’s murder. The Cook County state’s attorney’s office says bond for Carter was set at $500,000 for an unrelated carjacking.
