Arlington Heights Historical Society fundraiser a swinging success
People dressed in 1920s outfits from flappers to gangsters helped the Arlington Heights Historical Society celebrate its Speakeasy FUNdraiser at the Metropolis Ballroom on Friday night.
The event, “A Celebration of the Decades: The Roaring 1920s,” featured music from The Flat Cats, a swing, jazz and blues band from Chicago.
Attends heated up the dance floor with the foxtrot, tango, toddle, and the popular Charleston as The Flat Cats band played vintage swinging jazz.
Master of Ceremonies Charlie Beck, executive director of the Metropolis Theater, hosted the program, which also had an open bar, appetizers, a silent auction and a raffle.
Attendees heated up the dance floor with the foxtrot, tango and the ever-popular Charleston as The Flat Cats band played vintage swinging jazz.
“The event was a big success with over half of the attendees are wearing 1920s costumes,” said Teri Ozawa, society coordinator with Arlington Heights Historical Society. “So we’re going to pick another decade, for next year’s event, but it will be a surprise because we are not going in calendar order.”
Proceeds from the event will go to restore historic homes on the Arlington Heights History Museum’s grounds and fund upcoming exhibits.
