Prairie Singers concert:If you loved the old stories and songs of Route 66, the Sun City Prairie Singers of Huntley will present its ninth annual spring concert, "From Sea to Shining Sea," at 1 p.m. May 1 and 2 at Huntley High School. Numbers include "Georgia on My Mind," "New York New York," "Lullaby of Broadway," "Roxie," "My Kind of Town Chicago Is" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo." The 100-voice ensemble is supported by the Sun Tones (a 10-piece Sun City Band), One More Time barbershop harmony group, and the Prairie Voices ensemble. Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children 2 to 12. Tickets go on sale today at the Huntley branches of Castle Bank, Citizens Bank, and Harris Bank, as well as at Prairie and Meadow View Lodges at Sun City during scheduled hours. Ticket stub holders will be entitled to a 15 percent discount at the Walleye Grill restaurant on the day of the performance. Parents, teachers, alumni and Dundee-Crown sports fans are invited. Tickets cost $75 each. The proceeds benefit Dundee-Crown athletes, cheerleaders and poms. Each ticket will be entered in a raffle to win $2,500. There will also be a silent auction featuring trips to Mexico, tickets to sporting events and wine. This year's auction has a theme of "Night of Knights" and celebrates the gifted preschool and grade school's 10th anniversary. Local businesses are invited to donate items, sponsor the event and advertise in the auction catalog. Contributors also will be recognized on the auction blog. The event features raffles and both live and silent auctions. Major raffle items at this year's event include a 52-inch flat screen television and an Apple iMac computer. Donated phones should be in general working order and have chargers included. They will be made available for seniors to use to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
