Two teens critical after Aurora Township shooting
Two teens shot Friday night while inside a car in unincorporated Aurora Township remain hospitalized this afternoon in critical condition, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 9:55 p.m. in the 600 block of South Sumner Avenue, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
An 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old woman, both from Aurora, were shot while inside a Cadillac parked on the side of South Sumner Avenue. The Cadillac's driver, a 21-year-old man from Oswego, was not injured.
Deputies determined the Cadillac left the scene after shots were fired and called 911 about five minutes later, after arriving at Frontenac Street and McCoy Drive on Aurora's far east side. The Aurora Fire Department transported the two injured teens to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora.
“It appears that their injuries are going to be nonlife threatening,” Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler.
Deputies discovered several shell casings at the scene of the shooting, but no arrests have been made. Authorities have not established a motive and have no suspects of early Saturday afternoon, Gengler said. The sheriff's office plans to interview the two injured teenagers once they recover more fully, and hopes to have more leads at that point, he added.
