Arlington Hts. kicks snow plan into high gear

The Arlington Heights Public Works Department has activated its Emergency Snow & Ice Control Plan in preparation of the large snow accumulations predicted by the National Weather Service for Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 1 through Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 2.

The department will have 36 trucks on the streets 24 hours a day until the snow has been cleared. They will make multiple passes to move snow off 230 miles of streets. Residents should anticipate that when clearing roadways, snow could be pushed into driveways several times during the storm.

The Public Works Department does not plow state and county roads within the village.

• For questions on plowing operations on village streets, please contact the Public Works Snow Command Center at (847) 368-5834.

• For problems on Algonquin, Golf, Rand, Palatine and Dundee roads; Northwest Highway; on Wilke Road north of Thomas St. to Dundee Rd.; Arlington Heights Road between Palatine Road and I-90; Central Road between Arthur and Dunton — call the Illinois Department of Transportation, (847) 439.0100.

• For problems on Central Road between Dunton Avenue and Old Wilke Road; Euclid Avenue between Rohlwing Road and Walnut Avenue; Wilke Road between Northwest Highway and 1,000 feet north of Thomas Street; Arlington Heights Road between Palatine Road and Lake Cook Road — contact the Cook County Highway Department in Schaumburg, (847) 397-4145.

Residents are reminded to not park on village streets after two inches of snow accumulation. Per ordinance, parking on Village streets is prohibited after two inches of snow accumulation until the road is completely cleared of snow.

Also, the Village prohibits overnight parking on any street from 2–5 a.m. without prior permission being issued by the police department. No new overnight parking permits will be issued until after the snowstorm is over and the snow has been removed.

Snow cleared from driveways should not be deposited on the street or on sidewalks. Besides being against village ordinance, these practices may result in hazardous conditions, additional snow being placed into you neighbors driveway, and personal liability for the violator should an incident occur as a result of that action.

Public Works crews will clear sidewalks around public parking lots, on selected pedestrian routes leading to the downtown train station, and around village-owned buildings.

Village-owned parking lots and the commuter parking lots will be salted and plowed.
