I won't keep my flag in closet
The columns by Ruben Navarrette are always interesting and thought provoking. The article he wrote for the May 13 issue of the Daily Herald is true to his style. Good for him - hold tight to your convictions, Ruben. You should not mind at all when I do the very same.
Your subject was the dress code at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif. Those five bad boys that wore the wrong shirts to school on Cinco de Mayo took more heat from you. Their disrespect for the authority of the assistant principal, Miguel Rodriguez, was their crime.
After more details surfaced - you did mention that it was also true that administrators at Live Oak High School asked students beforehand not to wear flag clothing on Cinco de Mayo, any flags, of the USA or Mexico or Estonia. That was all students, right?!
You did not say, was it a slip or intended, how many Mexican youngsters wore the Mexican flag on their clothing that day, in defiance of the assistant principal. Sir, please do not tell me that none did, just because the assistant principal asked them not to. Ruben, in my USA, any citizen can wear clothing that displays the flag of our country, any day of the week, and I often do.
As you know, the bottom line to all this friction stems from illegal entry to the USA. Real respect is not on the way, for any group, until we do away with illegal entry.
