Palatine home remains tenable after garage fire

A Palatine home remains tenable after firefighters were able to get an attached garage fire under control Sunday afternoon, according to a news release.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the 800 block of South Benton Street around 1:20 p.m., officials said. When crews arrived five minutes later, smoke was showing from the garage area of the one-story, single family residence. They had to open a wall and a ceiling in the garage to make sure the fire did not extend into the attic space.

The fire was under control at 1:34 p.m. No one was injured and the two adult occupants will be able to move back in. Damage estimates were no immediately available.

A total of 22 firefighters responded to the scene, including a unit from the Rolling Meadows Fire Department.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
