Resignation is a loss to Illinois

We are saddened by Jerry Stermer's resignation as chief of staff to Gov. Pat Quinn. We have known and worked with Jerry for decades and he has been an inspiration to all of us. Jerry has devoted his career to promoting the interests of underprivileged children and families. He is a giant in the nonprofit world and has been a mentor to countless young people through his leadership and teaching.

It is typical of his integrity that he would self-report a minor and inadvertent violation of the ethics code. The people of Illinois have benefited immeasurably from Jerry's service. No one better defines the term public servant. His resignation is a blow to all of us who care about children and families in Illinois and good and honest government.
