Elgin man died of strangulation

An autopsy determined an Elgin man found Sunday in his home died of strangulation, officials said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office determined John Poyer, 88, of the 500 block of Hiawatha Drive, died as the result of a homicide.

Elgin police responded to the home Sunday, where he was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m., police said. His death is still under investigation.
