Sandack will run again for Illinois House; primary still possible
State Rep. Ron Sandack, a Downers Grove Republican, will announce Tuesday his plans to run for re-election to the Illinois House.
Sandack says his campaign will mean becoming “as ubiquitous as possible” in the district, and he said he’ll talk to voters about Democrats’ handling of the state’s troubled finances. He supported of one of two competing pension reform proposals that would have saved more money.
The former Downers Grove mayor is one of two House Republicans who have backed same-sex marriage, and a primary challenger to the freshman member could be looming. The other, state Rep. Ed Sullivan, a Mundelein Republican, similarly faces a likely primary opponent.
Sandack says supporting same-sex marriage should be a conservative position because it would mean less government intervention into civil marriages.
“If that’s the issue that everyone wants to focus on, then I may not return,” Sandack said.
Sandack represents the Illinois House’s 81st District, which includes parts of Downers Grove, Naperville, Lisle, Bolingbrook, Woodridge and Darien.
