Thanks for the hand in building houses

On behalf of the five families receiving new homes, I would like to thank Nicor and the more than 50 employees who volunteered their time to build houses for DuPage Habitat for Humanity during Nicor’s 15th Annual Volunteer Day recently. In addition to the hours of labor donated by Nicor volunteers, our organization was also awarded a $15,000 grant for housing construction and rehabilitation from Nicor in celebration of the company’s 15 years of community service through Volunteer Day.

DuPage Habitat for Humanity uses donated materials and volunteer efforts to build affordable housing for area families — housing that is crucial to the continued development and stability of our communities. These volunteer-built homes are then sold to qualifying families at no profit to Habitat, and at zero percent interest to the homebuyers.

Year after year, I am inspired by the generosity of Nicor’s volunteers and the company’s commitment to supporting our mission of providing sustainable housing that will offer families a hand up, not a handout. In these challenging economic times and in light of diminishing support from other agencies, the mission of the DuPage Habitat for Humanity could not be more important — and it would not be possible without the continued support of companies like Nicor.

DuPage Habitat for Humanity is honored to benefit from Nicor’s philanthropic commitment, and we are proud to partner with a company so strongly invested in the well being of the communities it serves.
