What’s the point of rearview mirror law?

It does not make any sense that Illinois has a law that forbids us from hanging obstructions from our car’s rear view mirror. What am I supposed to do if my car smells? I think everyone has had a small scented tree hanging from his or hers mirror at some point. I hardly believe that a small air freshener hanging from my rear view mirror could obstruct my view of the road.

I think that this law should be retracted. In my mind, it is foolish to write someone a citation for having something hanging from his or her mirror. Obviously it doesn’t obstruct their view of the road if they are driving normally. Police officers rarely pull people over for this, so why even have this law?
