ClothRoads Trunk Show features goods from around the world

On Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 2, shop in a “Global Textile Marketplace” when the ClothRoads Trunk Show brings a range of items from around the world to St. Charles at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Road. Admission is free.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., see hundreds of artisan-made textiles, including hats, gloves and socks from Peru and Estonia; silk scarves from India, Laos, Madagascar and Uzbekistan; indigo textiles from Mali, Japan, Peru, Indonesia and Laos, and more.
Each piece is made by artisans with a tradition of expressing their fine craft through the making of cloth, natural dyeing methods, weaving techniques, spinning, printing, knitting and more.
Eight years ago, co-workers from the former executive team at Interweave Press set out together on a new adventure, with the goal of supporting weavers and textile artisans in developing countries.
In villages and cooperatives across Africa, Asia and Latin America, on homesteads in Eastern Europe or the Middle East, ClothRoads seeks out handmade textiles, handspun yarns, crafters’ tools and supplies, and more.
Learn more about this organization with a guest lecture at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, when Marilyn Murphy, former president of Interweave Press, will speak on “Global Artisans’ Weaving Cooperative and Their Future Sustainability.”

Also, on Saturday, Nov. 2, spend an evening experiencing the musical talents of American folk singer and songwriter Anne Hills. This live concert will take place in the Kavanagh Gallery. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with concert at 8 p.m.

Fine Line Creative Arts Center is a nonprofit educational art school that offers classes for adults in a range of fine arts. Two galleries are included on the Fine Line campus, where national and international as well as local artists’ works are featured throughout the year.
