Woodland Primary School in Gages Lake turns 100

Students at Woodland Primary School in Gages Lake celebrated the 100th day of school last month.

Since the first day of school in September, kindergartners have been making a chain, each chain link represents a day of school. Everyday, students add one link to the chain, the first 10 links in one color and the next 10 in a different color. Changing the color every 10 days helps the children learn to count to 100 by 1s and 10s.

"Skip counting is excellent practice for developing a child's awareness of number patterns and building their number sense," said math specialist Danielle Mann. "The students enjoy participating in a variety of math and counting activities."

Said Principal Lori Casey, "Each classroom celebrates the 100th Day of school with different math and literacy activities to honor this important milestone in a child's first year of school."
