Lombard men charged in drug bust

Two Lombard men are facing felony drug charges after authorities found about 38 kilograms of cocaine in their house during a search Wednesday.

Rene Ortega, 33, and Leonel Torres-Torres, 43, both of the 100 block of West Road, are charged with one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, the DuPage County State's Attorney's office announced Friday.

The men could face 15 to 60 years in prison if convicted on the felony charges.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents and Lombard police executed a search warrant at the suspects' house at about 7:55 p.m. Wednesday.

A drug search dog, Chico, alerted officers to certain areas in the house where cocaine was found, authorities said.

“The fear of other drug stash houses in the suburbs is of real concern and the two agencies are committed to working together along with other law enforcement partners in dealing with this core issue,” Lombard Deputy Police Chief Pat Rollins said in a statement.

Both suspects were in bond court Friday morning, with bond set at $1 million each. They are due in court again Jan. 10.
