Quarterback Jacob Charest leaves Illinois

CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois spokesman Kent Brown says backup quarterback Jacob Charest has left the school.

Details about the sophomore's decision and his plans weren't immediately available.

Ron Zook last week named redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase his starter over Charest and freshman Chadler Whitmer.

Charest is from Mathews, N.C. He played in four games last year as a redshirt freshman. He completed 50 percent of his passes for 382 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He started two of those games.

The move leaves Illinois with Scheelhaase, Whitmer and freshman Miles Osei at quarterback.
