Lisa Stone is right about many things
Many people are upset with Trustee Lisa Stone, thinking she has brought trouble and discord to the Village Board. The fact is that she has been right on most subjects.
For example, the Freedom of Information request that was made by not her, but an outside organization. She correctly pointed out the Village had NOT completely complied with the request.
She was not pronouncing anyone guilty of anything, but correctly pointing out Buffalo Grove had not met the standard necessary in complying. You will note that since then, the Village adopted a written policy on document handling and responding to FOI requests.
Another thing that seems to offend people is she suggested an ethics panel be established. Again, no one was accused of anything, but since many cities have ethics commissions in place, it was not that unusual for Buffalo Grove to have one. The Village Board again accepted this idea and enacted an appropriate ethics commission, Remember, she is subject to the ethics guidelines as much as others.
Another area where she has been outspoken is on fighting drugs. Many people were shocked and in disbelief when she stated we had drug problems. Subsequently however, we have all heard from the police and county drug enforcement what the real situation is.
There is no sense burying your head in the sand about this problem, and while it's hard to face the facts, she was not wrong on this issue.
So let's accept the fact that part of the problem is that Buffalo Grove is transitioning from a small bedroom community to a large town needing to deal with some things we have heretofore ignored.
The Village's problems are not due to one Trustee, but more due to resistance to change and hesitancy to face the complex issues of todays society.
