Grayslake service awards:

Two Service to the Community Awards were handed out at Tuesday night's Grayslake village board meeting. The recipients were Grayslake Youth Center Director Joyce Campbell and Grayslake Park District Executive Director Robert Lashbrook. Campbell was recognized for efforts that included creation of the Oasis Youth Center that debuted in 2008. She's known for working with the local business community to facilitate community activities involving youths. Lashbrook was lauded for what village officials say has been 13 years of outstanding work as the park district's leader. Creation of the 9-hole Carillon Golf Course and construction of Alleghany Park are among the highlights of Lashbrook's Grayslake tenure.

Another Dagley retiring:

Penny Dagley is retiring at the end of this academic year as assistant superintendent for support services at Gurnee-based Woodland Elementary District 50, where she's spent 16 years. Dagley has been in public education for more than 37 years. She'll join her husband, Myron Dagley, in retirement. Myron Dagley is retiring as director of Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake on June 30. He retired as Waukegan Unit District 60's deputy superintendent in 2004. Penny Dagley is credited with creating many programs at Woodland in an effort to link the district more closely to the community and its resources, while enhancing opportunities for students. Lori Casey will take over as District 50's associate superintendent for education. Casey, who's the Woodland Primary School principal, has been with the district for more than 10 years.

Wysocki re-elected:

Green Oaks mayor and local attorney Bernard Wysocki has been re-elected to the board of governors of the Illinois State Bar Association. The 25-member board directs the operations and activities of the statewide organization for attorneys.

Libertyville police chief, parks head search:

Candidates for police chief and parks head in Libertyville have been plentiful as the search for replacements continues. Village Administrator Kevin Bowens said 50 applications have been received to replace Police Chief Pat Carey, who retired April 30. More than 180 applications have poured in for the newly created position of director of recreation & Sports Complex, Bowens said. The new hire will replace James Zych, who was released in early May as the village's parks chief. Bowens said resumes are being reviewed and two teams will be assembled to interview those who make the cut. The parks slot will be expedited as duties are shared among existing employees. Deputy Police Chief Robert Koval is serving as acting chief, so settling that position is not as urgent, Bowens said.
