Lake YWCA program to host Breast Cancer Memorial
YWCA Lake County’s ENCOREplus Program, in cooperation with Midwestern Regional Medical Center, will hold a Breast Cancer Memorial from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.
“The Breast Cancer Memorial is a special event to commemorate those who have succumbed to breast cancer and celebrate those who have survived,” said Shaunta McGee, director of YWCA’s Women and Adolescent Girls’ Health Program.
“Last year, the Breast Cancer Memorial was a success; survivors, family members and friends joined us to celebrate this great event.”
This year, the memorial will begin at 5 p.m. at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, 2520 Elisha, Zion. During the memorial, those in attendance will receive a flower, courtesy of Balmes Flower Shop. These flowers are given to commemorate those who have been lost to the disease or to recognize years of survivorship.
Survivors and/or family members will present their story of survivorship or the story of a member lost due to breast cancer, followed by a reception. Daryl Purvis from Family Piano Company will play inspirational songs.
The memorial will be followed by a reception for survivors and family members.
The YWCA ENCOREplus Program provides women throughout Lake County with free education on the need for early detection, mammograms and follow-up services. Many of the women involved in the ENCOREplus Program are expected to attend the memorial.
