Motorola names directors for Solutions business

Motorola Inc., which is splitting into two companies on Jan. 4, named nine board members Wednesday for Motorola Solutions Inc., the business that sells police radios and barcode scanners to government and corporate customers.

Greg Brown, who'd been serving as Motorola's co-CEO with Sanjay Jha, will serve as a board member in addition to his role as president and CEO of Motorola Solutions. David W. Dorman, Motorola's current chairman, will serve as the chairman.

Motorola said the board plans to name Brown as chairman effective May 2011, and Dorman will become lead independent director.

The other board members are William J. Bratton, Michael V. Hayden, Vincent J. Intrieri, Judy C. Lewent, Samuel C. Scott III, Douglas A. Warner III and John A. White. Scott, Warner and White currently serve on Motorola's board.

The other side of Motorola, which makes cell phones and cable set-top boxes, will be called Motorola Mobility.

Shares of Motorola rose 32 cents, or 4.1 percent, to $7.97 in morning trading. The stock has traded between $6.04 and $8.74 in the past 52 weeks.
