$2.5 mil bond for suspect in 1982 killing
A Tennessee man charged with killing a Round Lake Beach man in 1982 is being held in Lake County jail in lieu of $2.5 million, officials said.
Robert “Bobby” Bostic, 70, of Roane County, Tenn., told Lake County Judge Raymond Collins in Waukegan bond court Thursday morning that he was in the process of determining whether he could hire an attorney or whether he’d need a court-appointed lawyer to represent him.
Collins set a Feb. 2 court date for an update on attorney status.
Bostic was arrested by the Roane County sheriff’s office in Tennessee for the 1982 murder of Carlton Richmond in Round Lake Beach, authorities said Wednesday.
On June 25, 1982, police were called to a garage on the 800 block of Oakwood Drive for the shooting of the 31-year-old Richmond.
A lengthy investigation revealed Bostic and Richmond were at a party for members of a motorcycle club when the shooting took place.
No charges were filed and the case into the shooting sat cold for more than 28 years before investigators from Round Lake Beach and Lake County prosecutors reinterviewed witnesses and got a break to solve it.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Scheller said four witnesses have recently provided statements to police implicating Bostic.
Scheller also said Bostic has a lengthy arrest record, but could not say how many of the arrests resulted in convictions.
Round Lake Beach police investigators appeared before Collins this week regarding new testimony that alleged Bostic and Richmond had a discussion that resulted in Bostic shooting Richmond, authorities said.
An arrest warrant was issued for Bostic on one count of first-degree murder. He was picked up at his home in Tennessee without incident, officials said.
