Changing of the guard at Elgin PD

The Elgin Police Department said goodbye to retiring Sgt. John Demmin Friday and welcomed new Sgt. Christian Jensen.

Demmin started with Elgin in 1984 as a patrol officer, eventually working in the major investigations division before being promoted to sergeant in 2001.

Jensen started with the force in 1999, also working as a patrol officer before being assigned to the Resident Officer Program, the gang unit and the Tactical Response Team.

Jensen came up with the original idea, recently signed into law, that gives law enforcement agencies the ability to recover funds from convicted drug dealers spent during investigations to apprehend them.
