A dry harvest
The 2010 harvest season in northern Illinois was fast and dry. It was the earliest harvest of the decade, according to some reports.
The summer was wet in the early months and dry in later months. Some farmers were able to harvest all their corn in September, earlier then they'd even begun in 2009.
The soybean harvest was finished at least a month earlier than in 2009.
Dust from creeping combines filled the country air most evenings from mid September to mid October.
