Music notes: Rammstein hits Allstate Friday
We're getting closer to summer, which means live-music calendars are filling up. Here are some highlights of a busy music week:
Euro metal
Rammstein, an industrial metal band from Berlin, will make a stop in the suburbs this weekend. Rammstein is hugely popular around the world, and the group has become known for over-the-top live shows that feature plenty of pyrotechnics and outrageous costumes. The band is touring behind its recent greatest-hits release, “Made in Germany.”
8 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Road, Rosemont. $49.50 to $92.50. Go to ticketmaster.com.
‘Local' act
While putting the touches on a long-awaited new record, the alt-punk band Local H is testing some new material on the road. Local H, which hails from Lake County, always delivers a galvanizing show onstage.
9 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. The bands Monkey Paw and Boots With Spurs will open. $15. Go to doubledoor.com.
Alt-country hero
Justin Townes Earle's latest slice of Americana, “Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now,” adds Memphis-soul accents to his sound, and it has garnered rave reviews. Earle, son of country rocker Steve Earle, is one of music's brightest young stars.
7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave., Chicago. $20. Go to jamusa.com.
Metal legends
Stryper achieved fame in the metal-obsessed 1980s, and the band is still going strong with its original lineup intact. Stryper stood apart from its counterparts back in the day because of the band's Christian message, but that didn't keep it from achieving big mainstream success. The band hits the suburbs next week.
8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Tailgaters, 431 W. Boughton Road, Bolingbrook. $19.75 to $32. Go to tailgatersgrill.com.
