Naperville tapas restaurant offers canine cuisine for diners' pets

People dining at Meson Sabika this summer won't need doggie bags; they can just bring their pooches with them.

The Spanish tapas restaurant at 1025 Aurora Ave. in Naperville is now offering "doggie dining" twice a week so pet owners can feast with their furry friends.

"Naperville is dog-friendly and people love dogs," General Manager Noushin Shirazi said. "I don't see any problem to treat the dogs well and just take care of them."

Numerous employees of the restaurant own dogs. Shirazi said they don't like leaving their pets behind when they go out and thought other dog-lovers might feel the same.

Doggie dining will be offered on a special patio for pet owners from 5 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the summer, weather permitting. There will be water bowls for the dogs set up right next to their owner's table and the wait staff will serve them just as they do their human companions.

The canine menu will include salmon, chicken and beef tenderloin for $6. All items will be served with vegetables and a dessert.

Dogs must be on a leash and Shirazi asks that owners take into consideration how their dog gets along with others before bringing them along.

Meson Sabika has been in operation since 1990 in the renovated Willoway Mansion that dates to 1847.
