White Sox to honor college baseball recruits
The Chicago White Sox will host a signing-day ceremony Thursday to honor five members of the White Sox ACE Team as they officially signing their letters of intent to play baseball at the Division I collegiate level.
All five of the players will receive athletic aid at the universities of their choice, and White Sox general manager Ken Williams will be on-hand to congratulate the young athletes.
The players are:
Ÿ Blake Hickman (Simeon H.S., signing with the University of Iowa)
Ÿ Devin Pickett (Marion Catholic H.S., signing with the University of Iowa)
Ÿ Shane Brown (Simeon H.S., signing with Oakland University – Michigan)
Ÿ Chris Stevens (Walther Lutheran H.S., signing with Alcorn State University)
Ÿ Shaquille Cockrell (Walther Lutheran H.S., signing with Alcorn State University)
Through the ACE program, the White Sox offer athletes in the inner-city baseball community the opportunity to play baseball against other highly competitive groups on a traveling team, ages 13-18.
All five of these players have participated in the White Sox ACE program for at least two years, and all have played in the Double Duty Classic, an event hosted by the White Sox that celebrates the history and tradition of Negro League baseball in Chicago and promoting the next generation of inner-city baseball players.
